From Desert Dunes to Hidden Beach Coves

    1. Home
    2. Beaches

There are no shortage of beautiful beaches on the island of Gran Canaria. Whether your choice is for sandy beaches or wild rocky beach coves, you are sure to find the perfect spot to swim in the ocean and relax under the sun.

A Day at the Beach Restores the Soul

Maspalomas Dunes

The famous beach of Maspalomas requires little introduction. With its long 7km stretch of coastline hugging the famous sand dunes of Maspalomas, there is a quiet spot for everyone to swim and sunbathe.

Small numbered kiosks are dotted along the beach with snacks and drinks, some with toilet facilities. Kiosks 5 and 8 are popular nudist zones, whilst kiosk 7 is predominantly gay. We recommend a late evening walk from Playa del Ingles to the Maspalomas lighthouse, when the sun is setting over the sand dunes.

The North Beaches

There are lots of small beaches along the rugged north coast that attract the locals and travelers who seek solace away from the tourist areas. Some of the ‘wild’’ playas require a short walk along footpaths, so bring sensible footwear and bring you own food and drinks, as there will be no amenities.

Puerto de las Nieves, is small fishing town popular with the locals during the summer, that has clean rocky beaches and restaurants. Las Salinas, natural pools in Agaete, offers safe swimming from the waves crashing against the rocks. La Caleta, is a rugged rock beach reached by steps, thats perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Nudist & dog friendly. Guayedra beach is mainly stones, but at low tide the sand appears. Nudist & dog friendly. Sardina del Norte, is a small colourful harbour with a nice sandy beach and fish restaurants. Its also a fantastic spot to snorkel and dive.

City Beach Las Canteras

The city beach of Las Canteras, has a very distinct urban vibe. It is a surprisingly attractive playa that stretches over 3.5km in length, with fine golden sand and safe swimming waters. The seafront promenade is full of cafes, bars and restaurants, making it a great place for interacting with the locals.

The west side of the playa is popular with surfers, whilst the east is perfect for snorkelling. At Canteras beach, you will find all public amenities like toilets, showers, beach hammocks, parasols, as well as lifeguards. Check out todays weather via the live webcams…
