To really experience Gran Canaria, you need to eat like the locals

    1. Home
    2. Food and Drinks

The Canary islands cuisine is a healthy mix of fresh vegetables, meat and fish, with influences from mainland Spain, Latin America and Africa. For true authentic dishes, always eat where you see the locals!

Bar Silencio "Casa Flora"

The only eatery in the hamlet

Casa Flora is the only shop in the hamlet, and from Thursday it becomes a bar with traditional food. The owner, Alba opens the interior patio and serves fried pork or pork with salsa, wrinkled potatoes, ropa vieja, chickpea stew, and more dishes for a very reasonable price. Undoubtedly, you'll be the only "stranger" in the bar, but we rate it as one of the best ways to really experience life here in the hamlet! Kitchen hours from Thursday to Sunday: 12:30-16:30, and Friday to Saturday 12:30-22:30. The store opens every day, when you see the doors open - countryside style, lol! Fresh fruit & vegetables on Mondays - much cheaper here than in Santa Lucia village.

Restaurant El Alpendre

Great food with a view

This little restaurant in our neighbouring village of La Surrueda, is truely unique. It has a delightful terrace with fantastic views outside, and inside...well I wont ruin the surpise! All of the yummy food is homemade and the locally sourced meats are cooked on a wood fireplace. Regular prices. The owner, Felix is quite a character.

Restaurant La Caldera

Good homemade food and reasonably priced

Typical village bar with a nice outdoor terrace, local homemade dishes, pizzas, and cold beers (great after walking from the hamlet to the village via the signposted footpath)! The stews here are delicious and meat eaters should try the goats meat. Regular prices.

Restaurant Punto Marino

If you want to eat while the sea breeze caresses your face, go to this fantastic Restaurant, Punto Marino. All the dishes are delicious and nicely presented with the freshest ingredients, fish and seafood. We love the Ropa Vieja of octopus, the sautéed mushrooms and prawns, and for dessert the Uruguayan Polvito - Yum! Regular prices.

Mama Gata restaurante

Our favourite fish restaurant

Whilst fish is available everywhere, its not always going to be super fresh in the mountains, so just a 35 minute drive to the coast you will find the fishing village of Castillo del Romeral. We love the shaded outdoor dining area with wooden tables and benches, and the staff are super friendly. Ask for the fresh fish of the day or order from the menu. Deep fried octupus is a speciality and the Ropa Vieja de Pulpo is amazing! Also try the Ensalada de Carne (warm meat pieces with a salad of onions, peppers and parmesan on lettuce). Regular prices.
